I forgot about weeding while I was writing this post! We have recently started a massive weeding project, and I do get to handle the books now. I have several posts half started on the subject, but weeding was been a fascinating experience for me a way to really close the circle. I posted something about this back in December (see http://deepening.wordpress.com/2007/12/10/raindrops-on-roses-and-weeding-the-stacks/) and it's something I think about a lot. \

Thanks for posting!

Thanks for being willing to play - I hope it didn't sound as if I were giving you a blue book test!

I really like what you said about what matters - not the content, per se, but the habits of mind to approach ideas.

And "rarely handle books" made me think. We have to do some serious weeding of our collection; one upside to this is that, when I'm there, handling books, I get a different feel for our library than when I'm in my office handling e-mails and calendars. It's good to get into the stacks now and then.
